THE CHALLENGE

Create an intuitive web-app for a router of extraordinary complexity.

SUPPLIES

I was provided a list of all the functions and features of the router could perform and a homescreen that they had been working on.

The first challenge I faced was try to wrap my head around the whole concept of it. The more I knew, the more my inner geek exploded with excitement. I am not allowed to explain the details of the whole idea here but I can tell you more in person.

FIGURING OUT THE FLOW

This was definitely the most challenging part of the project which was divided in two parts.

  1. Learning the nuances of all the features of this router and creating flows of existing UI.

  2. Simplifying the flow by identifying repeating patterns recognizing the user needs.

GETTING DIRTY ON PAPER

This is really where it all comes together as I wireframe while trying to simplify the flow and asking the important questions that need to asked.

I worked very closely with the CEO in this phase which led to a lot of discoveries for both me as well as the company.

To name a few -

  • We re-identified the core target audience.

  • Found the homepage for the app.

  • Discovered a very intuitive flow for the app.

DEVELOPMENT

It had only been a couple months since I had switched from Visual Effects to UX when I started this project. Graphic design still felt scary and not mention I had never made a clickable prototype before. I had only a few days left until the due date.

Luckily, my idea was solid and I had done my homework before jumping into building the prototype.
